A Traveller starship originally drawn in 1988 for the MegaTraveller Rebellion Sourcebook by Rob Caswell [link]

As no color images of these ships exist, I have no idea if the color scheme is anywhere near the imagined prototype ;)

July 13th: Minor update. Tweaked the colors and bump mapping a little bit, assigned the proper material definition to the windows, left the dust layer of as it tinted the colors a bit too much for the moment and last but not least I forgot to turn of the shuttle's layer during rendering ;)

Meet the 95ton Rosendal Class shuttle designed to fit into that channel (not visible here) underneath the hull.

Oh wow, it's cool to see this ship modeled! I think this may be the first 3D version I've ever seen. A fine addition to your earlier lineup.
As far as color scheme, I confess I didn't have anything in mind aside from making a nice B&W image, so any interpretation is valid. These days I think I'd lean more towards something like a brightly colored aircraft livery - especially for ships that can land (and thus have their exteriors easily viewed).
What app did you model this in?

Thanks a lot for noticing the earlier lineup too :)
Back when I actively played Traveller I was instantly hooked by just a few outstanding images and your Frontier Transport watered an a colony world with the sun going down in the background, the skyline of a city on the horizon and the action in the foreground was definitely among the top two or three images where I couldn't even decide which I liked best. Thanks for this superb inspiration, Rob.

So I will play a bit with two or three color variations I have in mind and keep you up to date :)

As for the app I use. I am on a tight budget and I use Blender for almost anything 3D by now (it used to be Cinema 4D in the past). Blender is an amazing piece of software - once one get the hang of it. I would probably continue using it even if I could afford 3D Studio MAX, Maya, Modo or C4D.

I wish I still had the original or that Frontier Transport image. I think I gave it to either Tom Peters or Bryan Gibson.

I've heard good things about Blender, but currently I'm looking at picking up my skills in Hexagon.

*sigh* A nice big scan would be cool :)
Well I plan to donate one image featuring the Frontier Transport to the 2013 Calendar. Perhaps a 3D remake of your drawing but with a different camera angle? A shift in perspective... But I have to see whether it thrums my artistic strings.
